The Political Extreme is Indeed the Fringe
The reason the political extreme is called "fringe" is because of all those itty-bitty, un-woven pieces that make up the fringe: It is a rather random collection of religious, economic, and social views from numerous individuals with unique perspectives and idiosyncrasies.
It is completely foolish to think that the political fringe could ever participate in any bipartisan effort. (Most people in the fringe are self-centered and uncompromising. They think bipartisan is spelled "buy partisan.")
Personally, I am not too fond of fringe. It never contributes any structural strength. It never stays in place.
At best, it is only for looks - temporary fashion of which most people tire easily.
Fringe typically wears off first. It gets tangled up on the vacuum cleaner. Invariably the fringe - along with whatever is connected to it - ends up being tossed into the trash.
It is typically discarded with the thought, "Why did we ever waste our time and money on that."
